Whether you've accepted Christ into your life yet or not, backsliding into old sinful ways and habits is a real danger.
The devil is on the prowl just waiting to drag you back into the darkness where he has much more control over you (1 Peter 5:8). But, there's hope! You don't need to fight these battles on your own. If you have so far that's great, but it's only through a personal relationship with Jesus will you be able to defeat the enemy once and for all. "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." (James 4:7) For you see, only Jesus has been able to conquer sin once and for all. You might have some short term success, but ONLY through Christ will you have "eternal" success! How do you know the difference? Let's take a look. "But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil. Those who have been born into God's family do not make a practice of sinning, because God's life is in them. So they can't keep on sinning, because they are children of God. So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to God." (1 John 3:8-10) Don't get me wrong, we will ALL stumble from time to time and sin. The difference is when you surrender your life to Jesus, the old you dies and you are born again. "This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!" 2 Corinthians 5:17 You'll still sin, but with the Holy Spirit now guiding your life, you'll see a significant improvement in resisting temptation and staying out of situations that would have normally caused you to sin. "Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit's leading in every part of our lives." (Galatians 5:25) Lastly, because Jesus died on the cross for our sins, they have all been forgiven...past, present and future! Don't fight this war on your own. Give your life to Christ and be at peace. "If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved." (Romans 10:9-10)
