"Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ." (Galatians 1:3)
Happy father's day! On this day when fathers are honored, I think it's important to recognize the father who reigns above all fathers. "One God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all." (Ephesians 4:6) A Heavenly Father who created us, loves us, and pursues us, as He wants not one of us to perish. "What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish." (Matthew 18:12-14) A father who is compassionate and slow to anger, "The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love." (Psalm 145:8) and sent His one and only son for the forgiveness of our sins, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16) As He is our father, we are His children, "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!" (1 John 3:1) And as such, He will mold us into the person He desires is to be, "Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand." (Isaiah 64:8) In turn, we as fathers should bring our own children up with an understanding of God's goodness and His free offer of grace for those who believe in Him, "Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it." (Proverbs 22:6) We need to prepare oursleves (and our children), because we know not when Jesus will return again, and we'll be held accountable for our words and actions, "However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows." (Matthew 24:36) Jesus has prepared a room for us for that day, if we have surrendered our lives to Him, "There is more than enough room in my Father's home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going. "No, we don't know, Lord," Thomas said. "We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?" Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." (John 14:2-6) Are you ready? If you haven't yet, no better way to honor your Father in heaven, on Father's Day, than to give your life back to He who gave it to you. "If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved." (Romans 10:9-10) Amen.
